It is 1893 and the first generation of Bjorklund immigrants who came to America for the promise of free land and a good life for their children have finally achieved their dreams. They now have a heritage to pass on to the next generation. But Thorliff Bjorklund, who has always loved writing stories and plays since he was a young boy, now wants to attend college to study journalism. But his father has refused to agree with Thorliff's desire to go away to school. Thorliff is torn between love for his father and the pull of his dream. Must he choose between the two? Another good story in this family saga. ( )

The next generation of Bjorklund's come to the fore in this series that follows the Red River of the North series. The Scandinavian parents, although now Americans, still hold to old ways and the young ones want to stretch their wings and fly. A wonderful series of the American dream coming true.
