Fiction. Romance. HTML:

From New York Times bestselling author Kay Hooper comes this classic romantic tale of two men entangled in the nets of deadly temptation--and one irresistible, ambitious woman caught in a trap of her own devising. . . .

At twenty-six, Serena Jameson is a handful--brilliant, manipulative, and passionate, at least when it comes to righting the wrongs of the world. Her father, a renowned computer magnate, is worried about Serena's impetuous nature--as well as a far more tangible threat--and entrusts a colleague, handsome Brian Ashford, to ferry her on a trip across the country. But as usual, Serena has ideas of her own.

A novice in affairs of the heart, Serena asks Brian to give her a crash course in seduction so that she can tame the notorious womanizer Joshua Long. But what starts as a simple lesson in love becomes a complex erotic dance, as both men find themselves caught in the snares of Serena's undeniable wiles. Is Serena trying to attract her declared target or her teacher? Who is really ensnaring whom? And can she finish weaving her web before the mysterious cabal eager to kill Serena's father manages to succeed--over her dead body?

Interesting. I was flinching, at the beginning, from Serena's plotting - I don't like manipulators. But it worked out...even though she's even more of a manipulator than I thought at first. And Kay Hooper's usual excellent writing - solid and complex characters, plausible situations...the slipping of the guard near the end was rather stupid, but still plausible. Good story, worth rereading - and I want to read Josh's story, too (I presume that's the next one). ( )

DNF. FOR NOW. Will return to this one, I love Kay Hoopers books. Even the older romances, which sometimes just make me giggle. She's absolutely in my top five authors though, always will be.

Book description
With her fallen-angel smile, Serena Jameson looked like a cross between a temptress and a teenager, but she could be gently ruthless when it came to getting Brian Ashford to make his move! The handsome industrialist was determined to play Galahad and protect her from danger--danger in the form of rakish playboy Joshua Long. But when Serena pleaded with Brian to teach her how to seduce a man, she ignited a primitive heat that shattered his control...and hers. A captive of her own desires, could Serena escape the tangles of her bewitchingly woven web?
