This was a fascinating story about middle school that brought me back to that time in my own life... Many of the stories are based off possible real events but are fabricated slightly to add drama. Many middle school and 6th grade girls would enjoy reading about teenage angst and could likely relate to the narrator. I hope that it would be a great series to hook my female students into.

I read 1/4 of this book just to get the flavor of it. It's a Wimpy Kid for girls. Written in diary format, it includes doodles and musings on everyday loves and mostly hates of an early middle school girl, mostly focusing on main character Jamie Kelly's arch nemesis, the beautiful blond, Angeline. Nothing to write home about, but given the popularity of Wimpy Kid, something for reluctant girl readers. ( )

Dear Dumb Diary, I was out player with my beagle, Stinker, this afternoon and I was doing that thing where you pretend to throw the ball and then don't throw it and STinker starts running for it until he realizes you didn't really throw it at all.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0439629047, Paperback)

Take a peek inside the diaries of Jamie Kelly! She's cool (sometimes), nice (mostly), and funny (always). Kid-friendly humor & art, along w/JKBenton's signature style make this series a standout!

Read the hilarious, candid (& sometimes mean) diaries of Jamie Kelly, who promises that everything in her diary is true...or at least as true as it needs to be. In this book, Jamie contends with Angeline, the school's prettiest, most popular girl (who Jamie thinks is a goon!) and the impending visit of her troll-like little cousin. Will Jamie survive? Will she go mad? Will she send her mom's nasty casserole to starving children in Wheretheheckistan? You'll just have to read the first installment of Dear Dumb Diary to find out!
