This is the story of two school friends, Rowena Cresswell and Sally Tuttle, who now have different lives. Both have children, one had to leave school because of her pregnancy. When Rowena became pregnant this destroyed her relationship with Sally. Rowena travels the world as a translator while Sally stayed at home and became a needlewoman, working in an alterations shop during the day and slowly making a career for herself as an embroiderer.

Their lives come together again when Sally wins a prize for her embroidery and Rowena happens to be in the same hotel.

It's heartwarming and sweet. The fact that the chapters are headed by different stitch names amused me. As I read the proof I missed the embroidery but this would appeal to people who remember embroidery classes in school. It is a sweet story, a good antidote to a stressful day. ( )
