innae's book box 09/11; billed as a romance, it really was a relationship book instead. After losing their 9 yo daughter Susannah to cancer, Michael and Polly become estranged. And neither knows how to bridge the gap. Polly treats Susannah's room as a shrine, does everything with Susannah in mind and feels that her family owes it to her to treat her with kid gloves because she lost her daughter. Michael just retreats in to more and more work. When Michael hires an out of work man to clean up his mother-in-law's house, Polly starts working there too. And when he falls off a ladder, Polly takes in his daughter Clover, so she can be seen as a saint. But Clover is everything that Susannah was not, and Polly is soon very challenged to care for the girl, especially when she adores Michael and hates her. But that's the catalyst for she and Michael to finally start working on putting their marriage back together. ( )
