This story is based on true events of the author’s grandfather. In 1919 he left the city with his family and tried to homestead a piece of land in Arizona. If you built a house and farm and lived there for three years, the government would give you the land for free. The family only stayed one year, but her grandfather’s vision of the desert blossoming like a rose did eventually come true. ( )
