Follow four children as they talk about the situations and emotions they dealt with as they adjusted to their new stepfamilies. The four children are represented in full color photographs, and are supported by text, word bubbles, and water color cartoons. Situations such as the formation of a new stepfamily, having two families, getting new stepbrothers and stepsisters, and the other changes that come about as a result are covered. Corresponding emotions like anger, jealousy, loneliness, and confusions are discussed as being quite normal, and advice is given to both talk about it and to think of what others in the situation are going through as well. Some pages do feel a little text heavy, and the juxtaposition of photographs that aren't related to the cartoon right next to them may cause confusion. On the plus side, many different kinds of individuals and situations are represented in this book. This is the type of book that we wish didn't have to exist, but it serves well as an aid to a younger child dealing with a massive life change. ( )
