Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0307162613, Hardcover)

One lovely spring day, Scuffy and his friend Seamore the Seagull are lazing on the calm water of the river. Not far away, little Beatrice Beaver is getting a swimming lesson from her mother. They swim downstream to Scuffy and Beatrice plays around, forgetting to heed her mother's warning about staying away from the strong current i n the middle of the river. Beatrice is carried off downstream by the current and her mother implores Scuffy to rescue her. Seamore gets there first, picks up the little one but drops her because she's too heavy. Beatrice goes through a series of rapids and Scuffy chugs along trying to catch up. He finally manages to navigate the current and the rapids and get to Beatrice just before a big waterfall. She uses her tail to help Scuffy get back upstream again and all's well that ends well. This is a story about adventure as well as a cautionary tale about listening to those who know best and also has a message about teamwork.
