I really enjoyed Hooray for Beekeeping! It was an interesting informational book that teaches the reader a great deal about bees. One of the first things that I noticed about the book that I liked was the organization of it. The first page is a table of contents in which each section is outlined so the reader knows exactly what to expect and where to look if they are interested in specific topics. For example, it shows that a section on how bees pollinate is on page four and a section on how bees collect honey is on page twenty. This gives the reader the opportunity to go directly to whichever section they are most interested in. Another aspect of the book that I enjoyed was the complex language and vocabulary that is introduced. One line that introduces new vocabulary is, “Some beekeepers travel across the country with their bees. They are called migratory beekeepers.” Introducing complex words teaches children to use context clues and to expand their vocabulary. The main messages to take away from this book is the significance that bees have in our environment and the important job that beekeepers have in taking care of them. ( )
