When Lucy visits Anna Zinnia’s garden, she is enchanted by all she sees; beautiful flowers and busy insects. When Anna Zinnia reveals a box of seeds, she tells Lucy, ‘In each seed lies a hidden, baby flower.’ Lucy plants the seeds and then waits and waits for the young plants to appear. Richly illustrated and simply told, this picture book would be a lovely accompaniment for your springtime seed planting and gardening activities.

'"How splendid," glows Anna Zinnia. "The babies have been born. Nature has given us a gift."'

Ghastly-dull, plain, worthy, mushy book about flowers growing. Much better to simply purchase a packet of seeds and spare your child the yawnsome text and bumbly, lustreless illustrations. ( )

Aunt Zinnia and Lucy spend their days in a magical garden filled with dragonflies, butterflies, and all manner of lush, beautiful flowers. But how did these flowers ever come to be? Curious Lucy wants to know, so she plants seeds in little pots and waits for them to grow. Of course, in her quest to learn the flowers' secret, Lucy also must learn patience.

Depicting the enchantment of nature through full-color illustrations, award-winning author Mireille Levert tells a tale sure to motivate young children to try Lucy's experiment for themselves - and to learn from their own experience that plants need time to grow.
