Let every man only take counsel for himself. [224]
Idolatry is the mother of all public amusements. [224]

Minucius Felix taught the rejection of all pagan superstitions, and Octavius welcomed the "liberality of God". [515]

Provides abundant support for the fact that Pre-Constantinian Christianity is a liberal idea. ( )

this is excellent material, invaluable for insight into the early church fathers, only comprehensive set in English that is in print, worth purchasing and studying. Timeless material which is mostly as relevant now as when it was written over 1800 yrs ago. These fathers were not infallible or perfect, and there are some differences of opinion among them on secondary matters, but the primary truths they all embrace and teach, and this insight into their theology is very rewarding. Yeow. While I love Jesus, the writings and sermons of these early Christian are filled with venom, bile, sexism, hatred, bigotry and many other lovely sentiments. Still it's a comprehensive history of the Christian church prior to 325 A.D.
