"Abbie an' Slats" was a comic strip, from the late 1930's to the 1940's, of the comic and sentimental misadventures of Slats Scrapple, a young man come to live with his two spinsterish aunts and make a name for himself in the world, hopefully as a boxing champ. The characters and plot can be a little absurd, if engaging; the art is really the strong point. A charming, romantically and comically naive strip that I like quite a lot. ( )
