The information in this book, for the most part, is useful and straightforward. The reader should be aware, however, that the author, a family counselor, professes his religious beliefs, especially concerning homosexuality as unnatural. Because of this, he suggests special counseling for those who struggle with their sexual orientation. Since this is a parenting book, this means that the child who is showing tendencies or struggling with this issue is viewed as needing direction in the area, and that direction is firmly toward heterosexuality. Up until this comes up in the book, it seemed like a very calm, sensible guide to dealing with issues all parents have when raising children. In the end I cannot endorse this book due to its fundamental misunderstanding of what homosexuality is, which tells me the author has a fundamental misunderstanding of humanity and human beings. ( )
