Finished Ladder of Years by Anne Tyler - liked it very much and will read some more of her books.

I'm enjoying Ladder of Years. There were times in the past when I felt like re-inventing myself, but I'm glad now that I didn't. I'm still little old me!!! ... and read that entry. Seems to work. I will go back through this thread several times as I read. I loved Alias Graceand Ladder of Years, btw, for those of you taking those on. Read Fasting, Feasting by Anita Desai - Enjoyed this book.

The Ladder of Years. This was the last Anne Tyler novel I read--simply because it was so dull that I didn't want to read anymore Anne Tyler for awhile.

... you on all the rest that you mention. I really enjoyed Ahab's Wife--for about the first half, then it just droned on. Ladder of Years was the last Anne Tyler I read. I was so disappointed that I haven't bothered to pick up her more recent work.
#9 kiwiflowa, I enjoyed The Crimson ... ... but it would have been so much more enjoyable at 250-300 pages. And I grew weary of the imitation Melville language.
4) Ladder of Years - Usually Anne Tyler is a "reading pleasure guarantee" for me, but this story was more Janet Dailey or Nora Roberts than Tyler. Tyler's characters and ... ... recently read the other Anne Tyler you mentioned, where the woman walks away from her family at the beach. It's called Ladder of Years. I didn't think this was her best work, but I was intrigued by the premise. One of the members of my book club often talks about how much she hated this ... YES, Augusten Burroughs is hilarious....I read Running With Scissors, it was a scream.
Also, Ladder of Years by Anne Tyler cracked me up.
I found the first in the series of Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar series to be deliciously sarcastic......very, very funny. 40) Ladder of Years by Anne Tyler (review) ... than the Blind Assassin parts (so far).
After that =, I will either dive into Billy Bathgate by E.L. Doctorow or Ladder of Years by Anne Tyler. Leaning toward the Tyler book right now, but I may change my mind! =) Up the Down Staircase by Bel Kaufman

I have just started Anne Tyler's Ladder of Years for a book I recently joined.
... pretty much all of what he/she's written, until I hit a wall. I read a lot of Anne Tyler, for instance, until I hit The Ladder of Years. I was so frustrated by that book, it spoiled all the subsequent Tyler books for me.
Same for P. D. James, Piers Anthony, Stephen R. Donalds ...
