1250. El Escorial, by Mary Cable and the Editors of the Newsweek Book Division (read 3 Nov 1973) This structure was conceived by Philip II after the Spanish victory at Saint-Quentin in 1557, and was completed in 1584. I have long been fascinated by it and would surely like to see it before I die, but I doubt that will happen so this profusely illustrated book on it was the next best thing to seeing it. ( )
