Unfortunately, Gamow's book, while representing the height of the state of knowledge in the field of cosmogony at the time, this book has a lot of problems even to my inexpert eye, being that it is now some fifty years out of date. To be expected, of course. This book is worth reading from an historical perspective, and much of the information presented is still relatively good, but there have been so many advances since 1961 that reading this book to learn about the origin of the universe is a bit like reading Charles Lyell to learn about the Cambrian. Read it for its importance in the history of thought, but find more current views on the origins of the universe elsewhere. ( )
