A dated mystery set in Washington DC during World War II among the upper class. I was interested in the story, but the whole feel was so out of date. I'm not going to keep this one, and I don't think I'll read any more by the author.

Oh, and this is my vote for the ugliest cover of the year. ( )

IF YOU'VE EVER LIVED IN WASHINGTON IN the summer, you know what a jar of Victory Garden tomatoes feels like in a pressure cooker.
Quotations
The trouble with Courtney is the trouble with a lot of women whose mothers forgot to tell them about eating their cake and having it too, and making their bed and lying in it, and those other useful bits of information preserved in the domestic time-capsules of yester-year. (chapter 2)
