Work Information

The Likeness by Tana French

  1. 190
The Secret History by Donna Tartt (tangentialine, cransell, GodOfTheAnthill, danibrecher, Booksloth)
tangentialine: Same sense of the mysterious, same sense of intense psychological speculation.
  2. 70
Faithful Place by Tana French (ijustgetbored)

  3. 30
Judas Child by Carol O'Connell (VictoriaPL)
  4. 41
The Little Friend by Donna Tartt (rbtanger)
rbtanger: The similarities between these two books are numerous, in spite of the fact that one takes place in Ireland in the 1980s and one in the 1970s American South. If you enjoyed one, I think it highly probable you will enjoy the other.

I love her writing style and the characters are strong and well-rounded, but the premise is little bit too much sought after in my opinion. The book is also a bit too long in my opinion. ( )

I love how Tana French writes characters and dialogue. More specifically, I *love* her characters. Really feel for them.

This book (and the first in the series) do really well as audiobooks, too. You know how you have a good audiobook when you take the long commute home, or you sneak away for 10-15 min at work here and there to finish up the book? That. ( )

The tension was fun and the idea of the plot was different, but it just didn’t hold my interest as much as In the Woods. ( )

why do the shortest books always pack the most punch? it's because they have less words aka they need to get straight to the point and keep the story moving vs having a bunch of fluff words.. although loneliness is not mentioned, it is a feeling one gets while reading the book. the narrator is frustrated at work because she is a woman and the men make her do tasks around the office that anybody is capable of, but since she's a woman she is assigned to them on top of own work/responsibilities. so what does she do to get out of the menial tasks and to be treated better? she fakes a pregnancy!! she fakes being pregnant to be treated better.. what? she is treated better by her all male office, but you start to wonder how will this end for her? and how can this end well? I can't give this five stars because the premise was so ridiculously hard to believe, but I seriously COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN. ( )

Although she overburdens the traditional police-procedural form with the weight of romance, psychological suspense, social history and mythic legend, she sets a vivid scene for her complex characters, who seem entirely capable of doing the unexpected.
