At times it reflects a boom economy where there is money to be made in side jobs. For example, real estate. The criticism is a bit unfair because Alboher's idea of multiple career isn't about making money. Nonetheless, in now in the Great Recession, cobbling together a few part time jobs or projects is the way many survive. I mostly skimmed this book. As a long-time book-publishing person now working in electronic projects, I was inspired by the concept of using off-hours to pursue hobbies or take a path toward a new career. The book In Transition, also recommends this strategy in the concept of career changers. Alboher profiles people who do something on the side. Speaking, writing, consulting are common directions. She uses the concept of a main, stable or "anchor" job, and then orbit "jobs" or say money-generating activities. A good metaphor and a summary of the book's main ideas. The author has a blog Heymarci.com An interesting journalistic discussion of folks able to turn several passions into several concurrently sustainable careers. The personal stories from, for example, the violinmaker/psychotherapist and the lawyer/minister, were detailed and inspirational. Besides the well-contextualized interviews, Alboher has many practical suggestions for 'slashes.' no reviews | add a review
