... Christie
37. The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Agatha Christie
38. Clouds of Witness, Dorothy L. Sayers
39. Unnatural Death, Dorothy L. Sayers
So that leaves me with a balance due of eleven books to finish out my fifty. And with 92 days until the year's end, I've got ... Unnatural death I'm 150 pages into Portrait of The Artist, but when I'm not reading Joyce, I'm reading old crime fiction. Not Sayers' best but diverting and fun. Strong Poison and Gaudy Night are the best though. I went a little wild in Half-Priced Books today . . .
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
The Secret Adversary
Unnatural Death
The Eyre Affair
The Garden Primer
At Home in Mitford (hardcover, to replace my battered secondhand paperback)
All except the Agatha Christie are ... ... Re-reading the book now feels like mouthing the words to a well-rehearsed play or swallowing something well-chewed.
69. Unnatural Death by Dorothy L. Sayers
Excellent and horrifying, especially as the novel progresses and the villain's gimlet-eyed brutality becomes more and more ... ... with Philip Boyes, she'd never have met Peter! There's bigamy in The Nine Tailors, a suggestion of lesbianism in Unnatural Death, repressed sexuality in The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club, etc., etc.
Oh, look! vpfluke in It's a LondonThing : Books about, or set in, London? (Jun 5, 2007, 9:31pm) ... Bright (about William Blake) and Falling Angels - supposedly Edwardian, but I didn't read it.
Dorothy l. Sayers: Unnatural Death (Lord Peter Whimsey detective story).
Jacqueline Winspear: Maisie Dobbs and Birds of a Feather, both not read by me (but by my wife).
Susan ... 14. Die Laughing by Carola Dunn
15. Unnatural Death by Dorothy L. Sayers
16. Gilded City: Scandal and Sensation in Turn-of-the-century New York by M.H. Dunlop
17. The Harlequin Tea Set and Other Stories by Agatha Christie
18. Cocaine Blues by Kerry Greenwood
19. The Wom ... #329 - Dorothy Sayers has an older woman who helps her detective, Lord Peter Wimsey, Miss Climpson. She appears in Unnatural Death and Strong Poison, I'm not sure about any others. Laurie King also has some strong older women in some of her mysteries which are not series, Folly and A ... ... I just love the language of the writing.
The first in the series is Whose Body? followed by:
Clouds of Witness
Unnatural Death
The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club
The FIve Red Herrings
Murder must Advertise
The Nine Tailors
Strone Poison
