A Chrestomanci book that I really loved. I also liked The Pinhoe Egg a lot, but I just could not put Conrad's Fate down.

From ... ...
Diana Wynne Jones's main characters are generally male, but there are great female characters too in the Chrestomanci books.
I loved Catherine, Called Birdy and also by the same author The Midwife's Apprentice. Quest for a Maid involves surviving a shipwreck and ... Although you're already strong in the fantasy arena, what about the Chrestomanci books by Diana Wynne Jones? I'd also put in a plug for books by Shannon Hale and second the one for the Uglies series. Terry Pratchett is a lot of fun, and while some of his may be too adult for your ... Brings to mind Conrad's Fate by Diana Wynne Jones -- a good book, btw. I'm reading Conrad's Fate by Diana Wynne Jones. It's been a long time since I've read anything by her and I'd forgotten how extremely good she is. A Chrestomanci book. Really, I couldn't put it down! I went to the bookstore this morning for some other things, had a bagel while I was there and needed something to read, so I picked this up. I read probably a quarter of it at the store, ... Sure you can - almost everyone's done it, since Conrad's Fate came out so much later. ... about chronological order for the Chrestomanci books, I think there should be one exception to the chronological ordering: Conrad's Fate should be read after Witch Week, because it was written so much later and is so much worse. I just read Conrad's Fate by Diana Wynne Jones which features a teenaged Christopher Chant as a character. It was interesting and inventive as usual, but too long and loosely edited.
