Fun mystery romance. Takes place in New York. Main character works in a dorm on a college campus. ( )

Big Boned is the third in the Heather Wells Mystery series and it does not disappoint. If you have followed the series you will enjoy the evolution of the character; if this is your first Heather Well's book, you will instantly be drawn into Heather's life and the mysteries she accidentally gets involved in.

Putting this back in the TBR file until I get the first two books in the series.

I was so excited to finally read this book! I’m a huge fan of the Heather Wells mysteries, and I couldn’t wait to see what one of my favorite heroines had in store for me this time. I must say that it was better than I expectedSo, the last we’d heard from Heather, she had just met her remedial math teacher who turned out to be a hottie. Now, in Big Boned, remedial math teacher Tad is now Heather’s boyfriend! Which is totally forbidden, since it’s against the rules for teachers to date students. Anyway, they’ve been dating for three months now. Tad is a vegetarian, loves to run and doesn’t own a television. Why is Heather dating him again, oh right, he’s hot.One morning after Heather goes for a run for Tad, well sorta run, she finds her boss dead in his office. Death dorm scores again, I mean death residence hall. Poor Owen he was shot right through the head, but nobody seems to sad about it since the guy was apparently a jerk. But once again Heather Wells is on the case, even though she is not supposed to be. All of my favorite characters; Magda, Gavin, Sarah, and of course Heather’s and my personal favorite Cooper, make an appearance.Gavin still has a crush on Heather, but he had found a new girl to like named Jamie. Jamie seems to think that she is the reason for Owen's death, since she has an appt. with him that morning to turn in the new Reverend Mark. Who apparently likes to get a little touchy feely with the choir girls, if you know what I mean. Even Sarah has been bitten by the love bug. Who would have saw that coming, not me!. She has fallen for the murse wearing Sebastian who happens to have a gun in his murse that was used to shoot Owen. But of course Sarah knows he is innocent, so it is up to Heather to find the real killer. On top of all her work related problems, Heather's dad wants to turn her into a female version of the Wiggles. As in singing songs to little kids about going to the potty! Needless to say Heather isn't exactly thrilled. Plus, Tad tells her that he has a very important question to ask her, when the timing is right. Could there be wedding bells in the future? To bad Heather is in love with another man. A.K.A. Cooper!Big Boned has moved into my number one Heather Wells book spot, and I’m am really hoping there is going to be another. There has to be! My only complaint is that I wish it would have been longer! ( )

I finished it in less than a day (it wasn't a hefty read, but I did spend a few hours on it). It is the last installment of the Heather Wells series (sad!), and she helps to solve another murder case (this time of her newest boss). Character relationships get even more developed in this one, as the graduate assistant who works in Heather's office is involved with a possible suspect. The ending provided some resolution for me, but mostly made me want to read another book about Heather and the things that happen at the end of the book (sigh). While I realize the murders that happened in the other two books weren't entirely realistic, this one seemed the least realistic of all (but it's okay, I adored the chick lit + mystery combination). Since I borrowed the first two in the series from the library, I'll be trading this one back on paperbackswap.com if you're interested in getting a copy! ( )

This is the third book in Meg Cabot's series about Heather Wells, a resident hall director of "Death Dorm" at New York College. Heather is a former pop star who is has a tendency to try to solve the many murders that have occurred in her building. Heather has some very interesting friends as well as an ex-boyfriend pop star, Jordan Cartright, who can't quite cut the cord on their relationship.
In this book, Heather discovers her boss, Owen Veech, shot in the head at his desk. She is tempted to try to solve the case, but her crush and roommate, Jordan Cartright's brother Cooper, demands she leave this one up to the professionals. Heather must decide whether or not her relationship with her math professor, Tad Tocco, is worth pursuing. She's still infatuated with Cooper, but he has turned her down, not wanting to be her "rebound boy." This book is charming and easy to read. I prefered the first two books, and I wonder if Cabot will continue to write Heather Wells mysteries since one major plot line appears to come to an end in this third book. ( )

Big Boned is the third (but hopefully not the last) book in Meg Cabot’s Heather Wells mystery series. This is the first one that I done as an audio book and it translates pretty well (as we know, some books make horrid audio books). I’ll be honest, I’d rather read it than listen to it but when I’m trying to cut down on book expenditures and I can borrow the audio book via download from the library the audio book wins.

I didn’t think I’d like this book. You see, I read a preview chapter of it somewhere and Heather had a boyfriend. WHO ISN’T CARTER. And that’s just wrong.

Read the rest here. ( )

I got this out as an audio book and enjoyed it. Light and frivolous, it's a good listen for jaunts about town. I may have to try one of this author's other series if she doesn't write another Heather Wells book soon. :)

The series was even more enjoyable because I just took a trip to NYC and spent some time around NYU, which is not New York College, but does occupy the same location NYU does. ( )

A quick read with a quirky heroine. I have enjoyed this series of books because they're great escapist reading. This installment, though, had a pretty lackluster plot - it wasn't too skilled in terms of mystery writing. But that's not why you pick up a Meg Cabot book - her stuff is great for funny characters and a nice little reprieve from the real world. ( )

OK, I made my way through 100 pages of this book and I finally have to admit that I hate it. I love to read what I call "fluff" where you can turn off your brain and just read for fun. But this book is not fun. It is annoying. Heather Wells is annoying and stupid. If I knew her, she would drive me insane. You get to hear her stream of conscious thoughts and I just really don't want to know what she is thinking. Enough raving - this book gets donated without being finished. ( )

Good story. Interesting mystery, with fun characters. My only problem is that the ending seems a bit rushed. I think this is supposed to be the last one in the series & the author wanted to finish everything up, but certain things just seemed to happen too fast. Overall, still a good book though. ( )

I always read random pages before I get a book, but I didn't read the right random pages on this one. This book was aimed at a younger audience than me. This is evidently a continuing character that works in the "Death Dorm". The writer has a witty style, but anyone older than MAYBE 24 is probably not going to connect to it. ( )

From the back of the book:

Life is reasonably rosy for plus-size ex pop star turned Assistant Dormitory Director and sometime sleuth Heather Wells. Her freeloading ex-con dad is finally moving out. She still yearns for her hot landlord, Cooper Cartwright, but her relationship with "rebound beau" vigorous vegan math professor Tad Tocco is more than satisfactory. Best of all, nobody has died lately in "Death Dorm," the aptly nicknamed student residence that Heather assistant-directs. Of course every silver lining ultimately has some black cloud attached. And when the latest murdered corpse to clutter up her jurisdiction turns out to be her exceedingly unlovable boss, Heather finds herself on the shortlist of prime suspects - along with the rabble-rousing boyfriend of her high strung student assistant and indecently handsome young campus minister who's been accused of taking liberties with certain girls' choir members.
With fame beckoning her back into show business (as the star of a new kids' show!) it's a really bad time to get wrapped up in another homicide. Plus Tad's been working himself up to ask her a Big Question, which Heather's not sure she has an answer for...

********

Of all the Meg Cabot books I've read, including "size 12 is not fat", "size 14 is not fat either" and "Queen of babble" and "Every boys got one" this is probably the most predictable book. It's fairly easy to see right from the beginning that Heather and her ever so handsome landlord are going to fall in love, and life will be happy ever after for everyone.

In fact this book was so memorable, that I had forgotten I had already struggled my way through it once before. Around page 181 it all came flooding back and I was ready to throw the book out the window again and pick up something else.

But no, for you Twelve in 12, I struggled through it again... just so I could tell everyone, that if they love Meg Cabot, (which I'm sure a few do) then this book is a very typical, Sweet Valley High teen romance.

Quick, read it, and then move on to one of Meg's other books, I'd recommend, "Boy meets Girl." ( )

I think my "girl crush" on Meg Cabot has been adequately established.

And here is another one of her books to add to my collection. A completely adorable book with her likable heroine, Heather Wells, and a very drool-worthy hero in Cooper Cartwright.
http://charlotteswebofbooks.blogspot....

Heather has yet again found herself deep in the heart of a murder at "Death Dorm". This time it is her boss & this time, she is the one who found the body. And despite Coopers very insistent protests, Heather takes it upon herself to solve the murder.

Big Boned includes all of your favorite characters from previous Heather Well's mysteries. Magda, the lunch lady. Pete, the security guard, & Gavin, the junior with a crush on Heather. The book is fun, sassy, and unpredictable.

But the question remains, is THIS the book where Heather & Cooper FINALLY get together? Not if Tad, her new boyfriend has anything to say about it! I guess you will just have to read it to find out!

Enjoy! ( )

Meh. I really wanted to like it. Heather Wells is easily my favorite of Meg Cabot's many heroines. She's grounded and funny and kicks butt.

This novel? Didn't kick enough butt.

It was boring in a lot of places, the central murder mystery was ridiculously unengaging, the resolution was predictable and (again) boring, Heather's graduate student was a gigantic pain-in-the butt, and the ridiculous amounts of coupledom were annoying (saved at one point by Heather hilariously commenting on it... but only to a point).

Overall, it just seemed like Cabot ran out of steam and got a bit derivative. That sometimes happens with later entries in a Cabot series, though. She's said she recently thought up a plot for a fourth book (after previously stating that this would be the last one because she'd run out of Heather Wells story ideas) so hopefully she's thought up something new.

Worth Reading? Once, yes. . Because Heather Wells is still awesome. Either way, I'd definitely recommend the first two novels ("Size 12 is Not Fat" and "Size 14 is Not Fat Either), because they rock. Even though I hate their titles. ( )

Heather Wells, former rock star and amateur sleuth, is perfectly happy being an Assistant Resident Hall Director…even though it is aptly named "Death Dorm". When the latest murdered corpse turns out to be her boss, Heather finds herself one of the prime suspects—along with the boyfriend of her student assistant and a handsome young campus minister who's been accused of taking liberties with sme of the girls' choir members. Once again, Heather finds herself right in the middle of the murder investigation. Simultaneously, her father offers her the chance to get back into the music business, her vegan, "rebound" boyfriend/math tutor, Todd, is about the BIG QUESTION and Cooper Cartright, her hot landlord has been acting very strange lately, almost jealous of Todd. This is the 3rd in the Heather Wells Mysteries series.

This is one of Meg Cabot's books written for adults and is every bit as entertaining, romantic and funny as her books for children and teens. Heather Wells is a "real" person that readers can identify with. She is "big boned", sometimes klutzy, not athletic and would rather eat than exercise. I hope there are more Heather Wells books forthcoming! ( )

Well. I've now read all 3 of the Heather Wells books, all in a row, in about 2 weeks time. I'm looking forward to reading something else.

I flew through this one. More in an effort to just finish it already. The mystery in this one was, well, boring. Heather didn't have to try too hard. And if no one in the story cared about the character who was murdered, why should I? There was no depth to this one. Not as good as the other two. Like Ms. Cabot had the "Heather Wells story template", but she just didn't feel like filling in too many details this time around.

I have to admit, I'm a little amazed at how prolific Ms. Cabot is. Maybe her books would be better if she wasn't writing so darn many? Quality over quantity, you know? ( )

Third in the Heather Wells mystery series, Big Boned is the weakest of the bunch. Heather Wells, former teen pop star and current assistant director of "Death Dorm" at New York College, is in a good place in her life (for once) when her new boss turns up dead. And in classic Heather fashion, she begins investigating the murder, despite warnings from all sides to just leave it alone. This book has a few good moments (I'm still laughing over Heather thinking her uterus has fallen out while going for a jog), and I'm sure I'll keep reading this series as more books are released, but it's certainly nothing groundbreaking. ( )

Meg Cabot's Heather Wells mysteries are a big of a departure from her Princess Diaries franchise, but they get a bit old. Heather is a former pop sensation who has taken a job in a NYC college dorm. Oddly enough, people have a tendency to drop dead in this dorm at a tremendous rate. Luckily, she's there to clumsily save the day.

The mysteries are not so compelling, and the constant commenting (and atrocious song snippets) about Heather's weight and unrequited love for her roommate, Cooper, becomes very tedious after one book in this series. For some reason, I keep picking them up (this is book three), but I am always more happy to put them down again. ( )

Why the whole Heather Wells series has not been made into a tv series is beyond me. This and all the other books have the making of a great show. One that would appeal to a lot of women of all ages. ( )
  szferris | Mar 16, 2008 |
Not my favorite. It read like it was just quickly put together (and I noticed editting errors, which are a pet peeve.) The story went through 2 days of Heather Wells life, with the story line being yet another murder. The first 2 in the series were much better. ( )

I'm a little bit addicted to the Heather Wells' mysteries, I admit it. The same narrator of this audiobook, Justine Eyre, performed Size 12 is Not Fat. Now I just need to read the one about Size 14.

Heather Wells is an ex-pop star who now works as an assistant dorm director. Or, excuse me, an assistant residence hall director. Bodies always appear with her, and this time it's her boss. He is found in his office with a bullet through his brain. Who did it? The GSC (graduate student community) that is organizing for health care and better wages? His ex-wife? A student who lived in the dorm? Heather solves the mystery and this time she finds romance, too. ( )
  sarahthelibrarian | Jan 28, 2008 |
The final (presumably) entry in the Heather Wells mystery series was the usual light fluff. Heather is dating her maths professor who has a question he's waiting for the right time to ask her. Meanwhile, her new boss has been shot in the head.
