420 Made in America by Bill Bryson - a look at some American history, especially that of the English language and how in changed (in pronunciation, words that were added, etc.). It's fascinating, but slow going since I'm reading a couple of other ... I'm reading The Woman in White and Made in America and listening to When You Are Engulfed in Flames, read by the author. ... read that had a lot of dialogue and not a lot of pace, but still a pretty fun read.
Now I'm reading Sarah's Key and Made in America and listening to When You Are Engulfed in Flames (also hoping to finish those last two soon, I feel like I'm repeating myself...). >87 jessuncw, I'm really enjoying Made in America so far. I love Bryson's sense of humor and the random, unrelated, but fun details thrown in to the mix. When You Are Engulfed in Flames is the second book I've tried by David Sedaris - I thought the first (Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Den ... I'm about a fourth of the way through Her Fearful Symmetry and a little less in Made in America by Bill Bryson.
Now that I finished Johnny Tremain, I started listening to When You Are Engulfed in Flames, read by the author, and The Little Book for road trips. Made In America: An Informal History Of The English Language In The United States - Bill Bryson (read 2008) 400's:

Reading from an Australian point of view, a lot of the time I needed to look up the American English words referred to, but I by doing that I also learnt a lot more.
