I made two pillows with 16 squares (4 on each side). They turned with great. ( )This is perhaps the best introduction to the varieties of knitting. The objective of the book is to introduce knitting techniques through the creation of squares that together form an afghan. Each square teaches a specific skill: knit stitch, purl stitch, seed stitch, etc. cables, yarn overs to create lace, and mosaic knitting. Walker makes suggestions about color schemes and joining techniques, but accommodates the more adventurous or creative knitter. Barbara Walker tries to understand knitting as a system. This "how-to" book takes patterns from her 4 volumes of knitting stitch patterns and builds the knitter's confidence and skill level. Creating an afghan with this book will broaden anyone's understanding and enjoyment of knitting. Learn to Knit an Afghan is one of my favorite books to give as a present.
