I like this book for multiple reasons. One reason I like this book, is due to the type of language used to address its readers. Most scientific concepts can be difficult for children to comprehend while reading. However, this text uses vocabulary appropriate for children to understand. For example when discussing the different characteristics of clouds the author uses terms such as "puffy" to describe a cumulus cloud. A second reason I like this book is for all the written add ins. In addition to highlighting various components of weather they also include facts, activities and experiments, and chapter review or quizzes. By adding these components, readers are more likely to stay engaged while reading the information. They are also more likely to try one of the activities and learn more about the topic. I believe the overall purpose of this book is to inform readers about the different components that make up our weather. ( )

This book includes 50 activities that have step-by-step directions to walk children through everything needed to make learning about weather fun. This book includes information about how to build forecasting instruments, what causes different kinds of weather, and why the seasons change. This book has a lot of bright, colorful diagrams and photographs that show kids having fun in all kinds of weather. This book also has several surprising facts that kids might not know. This book would be great for elementary classrooms (3-6) for weather related activities. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 because of the many informative weather activities and because of the clear and entertaining photographs. ( )
