I read this book aloud to a group of campers today. I was a bit concerned how my audience would react to one of the last sentences (”Then David took the giant’s sword and cut off Goliath’s head.”) But there was no uproar and hopefully no lasting damage either. The language of the book was appropriate for the age group present: 6-10 year olds. The water paintings were colorful enough for them to enjoy even from their seats a bit afar. My only regret was that we could not really utilize the second part of the book. That is designed to be used as a puppet show, with cutout figures of the major and minor characters of the story. But I could not let them cut out pieces from a library book. This book is ideal for home use, where children could reenact (and thus learn) the story.
