Edited to say that I have to go with ... Am I the only one who still loves A Song of Ice and Fire?
I really liked A Feast for Crows, even though the main story was a bit on the backburner due to the end of open war in the Seven Kingdoms, because all the political stuff fascinated me.
The problem many readers seem to have is that Mart ... ... The Return of the King is almost half made up of appendices, and not actual story. Two novellas, 'The Mad Baron's Mechanical Attic' and 'The Choir of Knives' ... I'll vote for Sandor Clegane, AKA:The Hound in George Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. Just finished my first book of 2009! I'm already off pace for 50 books, but this was a long one, so I'm ok with it.

Pace = 21.47 books / year or 20998 pages / year
So, compared to last year, I am a bit behind on my ... #25: Nope, which is why I'm obsessively checking the site. If I remember correctly Feast for Crows started a bit slowly but picked up, I remember particularly liking Arya and Samwell's stories. Part of the problem with FfC of course was that many of my favorite characters were missing, Dany ... Bib, I never finished A Feast for Crows. I loved that series until that book. Dance with Dragons is the next one, right? Is it out? ... hoards of people screaming for A Dance with Dragons...
A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows Ok, time to start up the challenge again. I'm about 150 pages into A Feast For Crows by George R. R. Martin. Maybe I shouldn't be starting the challenge with this one, since A Storm Of Swords threw me off pace at the end of my last reading year, but I'm still on vacation and it's a fun book. ... friends are very upset about yet another delay on DoD. It was originally supposed to be released within months of A Feast for Crows but he had problems with revisions and some editing and it looks like it's going to be almost 2¾ years behind. I've read A Feast for Crows!
But I've never read Uncle Tom's Cabin I've read excerpts of The Voyage of the Beagle (for Biology class)
But I've never read A Feast For Crows. ... it down to just 5. I am not even including favorite re-reads, but here goes. In no particular order:
Ice Storm and Fire and Ice by Anne Stuart
If His Kiss Is Wicked and The Price Of Desire by Jo Goodman
Killer Secrets - Lora Leigh
Desperately Seeking A Duke and A ... ... to me from that mini-summary?
((Then again I like George R.R. Martin, so I might not qualify... Where would people put A Song of Ice and Fire if they had to pick either gender? *curious now* I'd put him with the "intended audience male" if forced, but... since I was most definitely female ... chickadee's read A Feast of Crows,
but she has never read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I've read The Book Thief (you need to read that, MsD!),
but I've never read A Feast for Crows. ... so here's the list I hope to tackle in December:
Rocket Man - reading now
The Warded Man
First Among Sequels
A Feast for Crows
The Invention of Hugo Cabret ... - Ursula K. Le Guin
Legends : The Burning Man Memory Sorrow and Thorn - Tad Williams
Legends : The Hedge Knight Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin
Legends : Runner of Pern Pern - Anne McCaffrey
Legends : The Wood Boy Riftwar - Raymond E. Feist
Legends : New Spring Whee ... ... away the difference. This has happened all month whenever I take books in.
Yay!
So yesterday I got:
Chalktown, A Feast For Crows in mmp, which means I can trade my too-large trade size copy, and The Sad Truth about Happiness.
Long may it continue. ... Pratchett. I am currently reading A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin which is the first book in his series A Song of Fire and Ice. I am also reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This book is about a young girl named Liesel who lives in Nazi Germany during the second world ... I finished A Feast For Crows. It was a bit of a disappointment, compared to the previous books, but there were enough flashes of his storytelling genius to keep you panting for more. I really missed my favorite characters, Tyrion & Jon Snow and since he decided to split this book in two, I wish ... ... regime all of a sudden) and that is my next read.
Talbin - I would go with Sunne in Splendour, its great.
msf59 - A Feast of Crows is supposed to be half of a whole and Dances With Dragons is supposed to be the other half. Many people have commented that the characters that made it ... ... Another reason Lonesome Dove is a good choice is that it's physically smaller than The Sunne in Splendor.
>94 msf59 A Feast for Crows is definitely much slower than the first three books in the series. I sort of readjusted my thinking on that one - I thought of it as a journey novel - ... ... of the best books I've ever read and as an added bonus it was a terrific mini-series!
I'm still making my way through A Feast For Crows. It's not as solid as the earlier books. Some of the chapters are a bit of a slog and the eyes start to glaze somewhat. Also, some of my favorite ... #177: fyrefly98: Agreed...Feast for Crows is likely to be the last volume of the Song that I read, and definitely the last that I buy.
It's irritating enough that I'm also considering the sale of my twice-read hardcover editions of the first 4 volumes.
There are better things to do than ... ... Caitlyn, but I grow tired, very quickly, of Cersei Lannister.
Actually I grew tired of pretty much all of the POVs in A Feast For Crows, since the way Martin decided to break it up, all of my favorite characters don't get their say until A Dance with Dragons. ... series. Yes, the books are big and dense at times but I feel they are consistently rewarding. I just started the 4th book A Feast For Crows and I'm really enjoying it. Good luck! ... dealing (more psychological) with the after-effects, of a major earthquake. It's a good solid read.
Just cracked open: A Feast For Crows by George R.R. Martin. I love this series! ... hunt and kill each other.
His Song of Ice and Fire series is good too. I still have a Storm of Swords and A Feast of Crows to read. I think they have pushed back Dances with Dragons,
From BOMC- A Feast For Crows by George R.R. Martin. This is the 4th book in his great fantasy series called A Song of Fire and Ice. I plan on starting it early next week and I heard the 5th book is coming out very soon! Any other fans of these books? Up next:
One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson
The Known World by Edward P. Jones
A Feast of Crows by George R.R. Martin ... the objective:
The Garden of Last days by Andre Dubus
Lush life by Richard Price
and hopefully I can start Feast of Crows by George R.R. Martin
Wish me luck! Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews
Blues For Mr. Charlie by James Baldwin
Fire Song by Catherine Coulter
Davita's Harp by Chaim Potok
Gideon's Trumpet by Anthony Lewis 29. Finished Fire and Ice by Anne Stuart. A nice little beach book. Although the dialogue and writing becomes a bit repititous at times there is lots of action, interesting characters, and some steamy erotic scenes. Enjoyable if you suspend your disbelief.
*touchstones pulled up wrong ... ... starting to lose some sympathy, now. I can grant that although a lot more of Dance with Dragons was written as a part of A Feast for Crows before they were split, he has other projects, and three years does look like the average time between the other books (at least going by my paperback ... ... of Alexander the Great by Andrew Chugg. 37. A feast for crows by George R.R Martin
This series just gets better and better. And now I have to wait till September for the next one.
And, I was horrified ... I heard the rave on LT about George R Martin's A song of ice and fire series (very much justified may I add), so reserved it at the library. When I picked it up, it had this cover:
belinthesun in What Are You Reading Now? : Do you read voluminous books? Will you recommend them? (Jul 26, 2008, 7:41pm) >19 A Song of Fire and Ice is really good. I've read the four that are out. However, some of the people that I've talked to about it didn't like it becasue it jumps around between characters a lot and sometimes a character won't seem to tie in with the story until later. This didn't bother me, ... ... longer ones I've read lately are The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (I think the shortest is 678 pages) and A Song of Fire and Ice series by George R. R. Martin (upwards of 1000 pages each). "I died in the Battle of the Trident."
A feast for crows
"Have you seen a maid of three-and-ten upon the road?" "Gregor is a very large man. Also a very stupid one."
A feast for crows by George Martin
"Do you have many friends across the water?" "The girl is young and gently bred."
A feast for crows by George R Martin
"That horse was much too large for him. What if he had fallen off?" Do you mean Fire Star by Chris D'Lacey? If so, try some of the others in that series, like Ice Fire and Fire Within. ... on the secondary market, if one is pressed to sell his copy one day; A set of the 3 first volumes of George Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, sold for $250 each initially, just went for more than $2,500 on eBay.
I don't own a book of either house yet, and so cannot vouch for the quality ... ... camp, plus there’s been lots of tennis to watch.
Here’s the list:
Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton
Fire and Ice by Anne Stuart
Power Play by Joseph Finder
