( ) Fourth in the "Don Strachey" mysteries, in Third Man Out, Don is hired to protect the life of a gay rights activist who sees it as his duty to 'out' every closeted homosexual in the region. Naturally, the activist has pissed off a lot of people and collected quite a few death threats. Unfortunately for him, even Don can't stand him and refuses to work for him. When the guy turns up dead, Don decides to find out who murdered him. Stevenson's writing is tight and entertaining, though this is one of his more-somber "Don Strachey" books, with less cause to laugh aloud. Still, I enjoyed the story very much. This book has also been turned into a movie; although it portrays a much-simplified version of the book, I thought it was fairly well done. no reviews | add a review
