I am amazed at how much Penelope Fitzgerald can pack into those small volumes of hers. I also liked The Bookshop best of these two. The Blue Flower creeped me out more than a little. Wow, such a slight book but it packs an emotional punch. A woman decides to open a book shop in a small English coastal town circa 1959. Problems ensue. I've added The Bookshop to my tbr pile. I read The Bookshop earlier this year and found it to be a nice diversion. A bit frustrating to leave it off that way at the end, but all in all it suited the story. The characters really were the thing, I agree. I enjoyed The Bookshop when I read it last year. It's a quick and pleasant read. I'm glad you liked it. 8. The Bookshop by Penelope Fitzgerald

I've yet to read Blue Flower, though it's on my TBR list. The Bookshop by Fitzgerald is also terrific.
