Poison by Kathryn Harrison (17th century, Madrid, Spain)
The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman (Victorian England)
The White by Deborah Larson (18th century, Pennsylvania, USA)
Property by Valerie Martin (19th century, Louisiana, ... ... bizarre but in a really good way. Definitely one of the most "different" books I've read in a long time.
Starting on The Dress Lodger now for a slight change of pace! ;) ... prize-worthy.
Although I never finished my audio book of The Mammoth Cheese, I have read other Sheri Holman books (i.e. The Dress Lodger) and thought them quite good. I have not read the Joyce Carol Oates; but in the last few years I have become a serious Oates fan and will get to it ... ... Fowles
Date with a Dead Doctor by Toni Brill
Roustabout by Michelle Chalfoun
The Squire's Tale by Gerald Morris
The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman ... books (yet) today.
My most recent purchases, from a local used book store, were:
Coastliners by Joanne Harris
The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman
The Hob's Bargain by Patricia Briggs ... fourth? the nomination of Possession. Also one of my favorites.
As mentioned elsewhere on LT today...I am reminded of The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman. I thought this quite good also. Currently reading The Dress Lodger and am really enjoying it. It's more historical fiction than fantastic although the main character, a prostitute, does have an uncanny ability to predict exactly what kind of sex a man will want at a glance. ... heard much about Renault though. (Unfortunately, I have run afoul of some excruciating historical fiction, like The Dress Lodger.) Three Black Skirts Anna Johnson
The Dress Lodger Sheri Holman
Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim
David Sedaris
Fashion History: Western Dress Prehistoric to the Present Terry Bigelow
Fierce Pajamas The New Yorker ... Woman Victorian London and the recent past (if I remember correctly)
Crimson Petal and the White Victorian London
Dress Lodger also Victorian London
Spell of Winter a modern gothic...and Orange Prize winner
Secret River fabulous historical novel that begins in England and moves ... ... and great leaders as much as I do for village life, ordinary people, social history. Martha Peake by Patrick McGrath, The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman, and The Secret River by Kate Grenville would be examples.
