This is an important source for insight into all the viola musicians of the 20th century, along with the evolution of violas and viola music. It is written as a memoir by one of the most famous viola players. There is a special part at the end, page 143-166, that is the authors' thoughts on several music topics but not on events or people. These topics should be read, even if the remainder of the book is just skimmed over. They represent the author's advice on playing at your best, condensed from decades of both playing and teaching.
