The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court by Jeffrey Toobin; TBR The Nine
I bought Nixonland and The Nine Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court at Costco today. Great review of The Nine, Lisa. I bought it last year (I think), but I doubt I'll read it now. I really enjoyed The Brethren, which I read on a long train trip in 1990. Are there newer books about the Supreme Court that you would recommend? ... books, and your reviews are spot on.
By the way, did you know that you rec'd. a "hot" review for your comments regarding The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court? Congats!

The Nine is definitely on my TBR list. I recently read The Brethren: Inside the Supreme Court by Bob Woodward, which is an older book about the Burger Court. It was decent enough, but not great. My biggest complaint was that the analysis seemed shallow. The stories about the personal side of the justices were pretty good, though. 8. For the most part, I liked the book, especially the descriptions of the personal quirks of the justices. The thought of Clarence Thomas trucking around the country in a big RV cracked me up, but also felt somehow ... The Nine turn out to be a reasonably interesting picture of the internal workings of the Supreme Court over the last 30 years or so. I'm up to the 200 election - lots of interesting back-story there! After overindulging in fiction since well before Christmas, I've got two nonfiction books queued up:
