This is truly one of the better regency novels. Ms. Hiatt did a lovely job setting up the scene, developing the characters, and creating some great dialogue. Brie (Gabriella) sounds like a lovely person and genuine friend. She's not terribly outspoken like her awful sister, Angela, but she's passionate about the things she loves. Her father's deceased, but she honors him by continuing to provide loving care to animals around her, including a mistreated kitten.

Dexter is a better man than most people around him. I think he's got good instincts about people and it shows because he doesn't allow "just anyone" to befriend his sister, Elizabeth. When he first meets Brie, the two don't think very much of each other. When they are reintroduced at another event, I was halfway wishing they would have a verbal show-down again, but that didn't happen! But I'm very pleased with how the story progressed and how their respect for one another slowly grew to "like" and then "love." It's really very nice! ( )

I enjoyed the storyline but didn't enjoy the writing style. It felt choppy and poorly developed. ( )
