A saga of a mistake. Brian’s mother puts him in an orphanage where he meets the bully Harry. H says that in life there are 2 choices when you get to a crossroad – take the safe or mad arm. Brian ends up becoming a sailor to escape the hard life he leads. Teresa fakes that Brian rapes her as a sailor visiting Brisbane so that her parents don’t know she slept with her boyfriend (who she eventually marries). B’s life is ruined by this accusation. T’s daughter Anna is convinced B is her father and hunts him down. Harry G escapes from prison, kills B’s mother (the Aunty Jean he’s been living with & didn’t know was his biological Mum) and then A & B all meet in a terrible conclusion.p.21-22 (up to “comb’ then start again at “they’d”and end at “learned”). What happens after the shoplifting incident.
