Von leaves Fremantle to stay with his mother Charlene in NZ. Although it is Von’s Dad Jake who is the native New Zealander. V soon discovers that is Mum is in “it” –big time! Her ex (his step sister Stella’s Dad) is a dealer and wanted not only be the police but also by a nasty piece of work called Mike who bashes his Mum. V has to take care of S while his mum sleeps or works at night. Then she disappears & welfare are after them too. Where can V go except back to the Chatham islands home of his ancestors The Moriori (who were a tribe massacred by the invading Maori & whites)?
