Set in the Depression , this novel is about a girl called Mary who looks after her father’s homing pigeons while her dad is away looking for work. Her Mum wants to put them in the pot but she wants to fulfill her father’s wish to race them in the hope of winning some money that they can use to buy food. p.61-66
