This collection of articles, photographs, political cartoons, and other miscellany on the life of Franklin D. Roosevelt is remarkable for it's historic context. While titled as an "omnibus," it was published in 1934, before the start of World War II and some of FDR's greatest accomplishments. One charming quirk is a series of photographs of presidents, their predecessors, and successors, that includes a caption for an eventual picture of FDR with his successor. This would never happen as Roosevelt died in office. Also notable is repeated references to FDR's disability, including photographs where his leg braces are visible and an article, written in 1932, that describes his paralysis, wasted-away legs and recounts a fall taken at a podium. This starkly contrasts with the prevalent belief that journalists of the time did not write about the president's disability. ( )
