I found it better than Black Powder War and it has a very strong, poignant ending which makes you anxious for Victory of Eagles. #71 Black Powder War is the least enjoyable of the Temeraire books. Empire of Ivory and Victory of Eagles are both really good, the pace quickens and alot happens. ... I bought the three books I was missing from the Temeraire series which I'm currently gobbling up. Black Powder War, Empire of Ivory and Victory of Eagles.

xicanti, I wound up getting Black Powder War and Empire of Ivory from the bookstore because I am way too impatient to wait for the library. I'm midway through Black Powder War and I am enjoying it a lot. I was never all ... Horray for Temeraire! I didn't enjoy Throne of Jade or Empire of Ivory quite as much, but I had a fantastic time with both His Majesty's Dragon and Black Powder War. I'm eagerly waiting or Victory of Eagles to come in for me at the library. ... how do these stack up in this series?

I'll also be listening to Jim Dale reading Christmas Carol while I do my baking and some ... Just finished Empire of Ivory and am dismayed to find that I'll have to wait for summer of 2008 for the next book in the series. Now I'm reading Once Upon a Winter's Night -- I'm not impressed by the writing, but still interested enough in the story to read on, at least for a while. I finished up Empire of Ivory over lunch; my does Ms. Novik detonate some very big bombs in this installment of her series. I'm in the middle of Empire of Ivory and I think I'm done with this series. Nothing good ever happens. Very depressing. ... getting ready to stop reading the Temeraire series by Novik. She's an excellent writer; however, I'm on the fourth book, Empire of Ivory, and I'm tired of nothing nice happening - EVER. It's depressing as all hell. November
3. Empire of Ivory by Naomi Novik (399 p)
The fourth book in the Temeraire series. I was happy to see that it moves at a much quicker pace than the last two in the series. Lots of suspense, some fairly decent action, and, once again, I can't wait for the next installment.

For fun, I'm looking forward to Reader and Raelynx (which apparently doesn't touchstone) and Empire of Ivory -- both adult fiction, in series I've gotten addicted to.
And, of course, PoA with you guys! Just finished Empire of Ivory by Naomi Novik today and I'll be starting The Terror by Dan Simmons as soon as I get home. ... are you liking Furies of Calderon so far? I thought it was all a bit too formulaic.

... I'm going to do some hardcore beading, (my new obsession), hopefully read Empire of Ivory, and cook dinner with my friends one night. I imagine the latter is going to get pretty crowded; we're all cooking supper together, in one kitchen, with each person preparing a different dish. I went out and bought Empire of Ivory by Naomi Novik this afternoon. Now I'm all afire to read it; it's going to make slogging through the last 500 pages of Kushiel's Dart even more difficult. Sigh.
