I love watching the characters grow. Horace and Will are turning into people to be proud of, without being overly perfect. They make mistakes and learn from them. Both have been willing to learn from their elders, Gilan is a fun one to have in the mix where Halt is always so grim and serious Gilan is less serious but just as capable and dedicated. ( )

Excellent continuation for Will and Halt as well as Horace and some new characters as well. Definitiely worth the time. We can easily see the maturation of Will and Horace, and the addition, or expansion of role, for Gilan and Evanlyn add a tremendous amount to this story. ( )

THE BURNING BRIDGE
THE RANGERS APPRENTICE SERIES

After the book Ruins of Gorlan, Will and Halt follow a group of wargals Morgarath’s army. Will and Halt find out that the wargals were following a unknow man. They attack the man killing him, Halt shooting the lead wargal in the throat. The wargals charged them Will missed he was scared. Halt then brought Will to where all the rangers meet every year. But instead they arrive a week earlier. Gillian Halt’s old apprentice has to go to Celtica and tell the king to send half his army join King Duncan’s. Gillian asks to take Will and his friend Horace. On their way they realize that no one was there not one Celtic. Gillian goes ahead and Will and Horace make camp. Bandits attack Will and Horace, they defend themselves ending up getting the bandits captured. They find a girl who says her name is Evelyn. She says that she is prince Cassandra’s (King Duncan’s daughter) maid. Now they see a army of twenty wargals Will and Horace tell Gillian to go back. He does. Will, Horace and Evelyn follow after the wargals. The wargals built a bridge! What will the two young apprentices do?

This book has a suspenseful feeling to it. John Flannagan is an amazing writer, he describes the characters so well in this book. This book is my least favorite of the series because John Flannagan is still explaining most of the characters. The reason why its not the best book is because it is slow fo the first 100 pages or so. If I were to rate this book I would give it a 7 1/2 out of 10. But the series is great. Read this series and enjoy.

This time Will discovers the morgarath armies is building a bridge across a valley to attack the opposing force..Will and his new friends plan to burn it down. Will camps out in the woods with his friends and watch the wargals. Will gets ready then and goes to burn it down. Things don't go as planned and will and his friends get trapped on the wrong side of the bridge. The wargals catch them and they give them to the skandians. the Skandians take them to skandia where they have to survive extreme cold.

This was a awesome book. I read it in only a week. I could put it down. John Flanagan is a good author and he has many books. This seires is also good. I look forward to reading the next books.
