YA adventure. Not as good as the first in the series, but a fun read. Unfortunately, two major plot elements depend on the characters acting unbelievably stupid --come on, no guards on the bridge that is the only route for the army camped right next to it?? ( )

Not quite as good as the 1st one but I liked it. Really likes the ending. ( )

This is a fabulous YA adventure series, and this second book continues neatly off of the first installment. John Flanagan does have a habit of ending books with very effective cliffhangers, and this one is no exception. ( )

Reread Jan 2017.

I continue to be impressed with the depth of military tactics. I am not versed in how historically accurate they might be, but they're detailed and make sense. ( )
