We did the Little House books, but I can imagine that Pullman's stuff might interest you. See if you can get The Screwtape Letters read by John Cleese. If you and hubby want a refresher on relationships, I suggest Mating in Captivity by Esther Perel. Anything by Byron Katie ... Linaldawen, I'm afraid I wasn't the audience Lewis was aiming for with The Screwtape Letters. The Screwtape Letters of C. S. Lewis are fun to read, and I certainly enjoyed his space trilogy (Perelandra etc). Everyone knws about the Narnia stories. Screwtape Letters, of course. I hear there is a version where John Cleese reads it. THAT I want to hear. Sounds cool. There's actually a C.S. Lewis book I'm interested in reading called The Screwtape Letters, which is a bunch of letters between demons, rather than Satan himself, trying to get a human to sin, or something, which seems slightly similar.

I like C.S. Lewis's nonfiction and quasi-fiction (Great Divorce, Screwtape Letters, Pilgrim's Regress) more than his fiction, but That Hideous Strength is quite good. C.S. Lewis Screwtape letters is some seriously funny satire.
But the funniest book I've read this year is actually The brick testament - The ten commandments, which is an ... ... Men which I probably wouldn't have done had I tried reading them in book form. At least with those two classics, as with The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, I enjoyed the audio version immensely and think I'll be reading a lot more classics on audiobook in the coming year, esp. now that I've ... ... I spent the morning separating Mere Christianity The Screwtape Letters and The Magician's Nephew. I kept receiving this:
