A plethora of well-known writers contributed short stories: Jonathan Safran Foer, Nell Freudenberger, ZZ Packer, Nicole Krauss, Karen Russell, Dara Horn, and others. Unfortunately, most of the stories were just not to my taste. They seemes to be trying a bit too hard to be avant garde, kinky, "new," which meant that the main characters just didn't engage me. ( )

Only a few duffers in this edition - as you'd hope.
The authors I was most taken with were Nell Freudenberger, Maile Meloy, ZZ Packer, Jess Row and Karen Russell, but there is a second level of promising work by most of the remainder, followed by more ponderous stuff I didn't like :- Jonathan Safran Foer, Olga Grushin, Nicole Krauss and Yiyun Li.
I guess the problem can be that my judgement is based on a piece of writing that may have had to be cobbled together to meet Granta's deadline (cos it seems it has to be "new writing" - which seems daft in this case) - so I won't be burning any bridges. ( )
