2. Citation: Stein, Mathilde & Linden van der, Gerdien. Monstersong. Honesdale, PA: Front Street. 2006 (originally published in the Netherlands). [Bird Library Book]

Age level: 4-8

Abstract: The main character in the story is a little boy pig who is afraid of the monsters under his bed. He becomes even more surprise when his mother pulls them out one by one and encourages him to make friends with them so he will no longer be afraid of them. But no matter how hard Mom tries to help him be friends with the boy, he just doesn’t like them and doesn’t want to share his bed with them. He will have to be very clever to get these monsters to leave his bed.

Appropriateness: While this would be a good read aloud book to younger students, the reading level is such that older kids could read it a younger student/sibling.

How to use: You could use this book for younger students who may be having trouble with the thought of imaginary monsters in their rooms at night and show them there is a solution to the problem in a humorous way.

Appropriateness of Artwork: The artwork is done in soft watercolors with colors that reflect the mood of the story.
