We would have DNF'd if Jon had let us.. He gives it 10 stars because the ending was funny and the bad guy was well taken care of. ( )

George is left at home to look after his cranky old grandma and administer her medicine at the right time. But when the grandma is mean and nasty George gets the brilliant idea to make a new marvellous medicine which will make her nice and fix all her ailments. The results don't quite go as planned.

There were things in there, they had told him, that could actually kill a person, an although he was out to give Grandma a pretty fiery mouthful, he didn't really want a dead body on his hands.

A weird and wacky tale about a kid who probably shouldn't have been left alone, parents who are determined to recreate the marvellous medicine and a cranky grandma who has no redeeming qualities.

I didn't like this one. It's just not my cup of tea - too bizarre. But I'm sure there'll be plenty of kids who do like it. Although I'd probably stick to older kids who understand that most of the included things will kill you or poison you with irreparable damage - even if they don't come from the medicine cabinet they've promised not to touch.

2 stars for target audience, 1 star for me. ( )

This may be one of the most chaotic, bizarre Roald Dahl books I've read so far. I loved every moment of it. ( )
