Guillen's little book is his attempt to show that science and religion need not be enemies. In fact, taking his cue from Matthew 22:37-38, Guillen advocates what he calls "stereoscopic faith," using both your IQ and your SQ (spiritual quotient). (Matt. 22:37-38, by the way, from the KJV: "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.") The book makes some fairly good points, and the SQ idea is interesting, but the book is written for a WIDE sophomoric audience, and thus is not comprised, unfortunately, of deep philosophical arguments. Then there are the contractions. I can not stand reading serious non-fiction full of words like "can't," "doesn't," "they're," and so on. It annoys me. Nevertheless, it is a good primer with some neat little tidbits to throw in the face of those atheists and agnostics that equate faith in God with stupidity, ignorance, and the like.
