Here we have the first arc of the WildC.A.T.S story from the beginning of Image comics. This team would later fall under the WildStorm brand and then be swept up into DC Comics, but this compendium is the first four issues which gives the origin of the team, shows them on their first mission, and introduces us to the world in which they live. A world that seems to be based a little on the classic 80s film, Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension. I mean, if the Kherubim vs. the Daemonites didn't have at least some origins in the Red Lectroid/Black Lectroid story, then I'm Captain Kangaroo (ask your parents, kids). Also, the Daemonites have a little Brood influence in their design and M.O.

Interesting story, decently written, and even though it's part of the big muscles, big guns art style of the 90s, the character design is pretty good too. This was one of the better books to come from those early days of Image. ( )
