It is known as the best French love story book, and it is a love story. It takes place between the two But it is above all a truthful critique of human society. It's a difficult book of 1000 pages. The action doesn't start until page two hundred fiftyish; it stops after a few dozen pages, and so on. Even if the plot is simple and the outcome predictable, it is for the superb and modern style of writing that we continue to read it. ( )
