I recommend this handbook to any newly diagnosed breast cancer patient. It is succinctly and clearly written so that patients can understand it. All the important areas are covered beginning with the emotional impact of a cancer diagnose. Chapters are topical and will help to reduce a patient’s fears by explaining what to expect when the patient is admitted to the hospital for an overnight stay or what to expect during a specific medical test. Patients can pick and choose chapters to read as they need them. The author includes many tips for dealing with the medical profession, making decisions, and maintaining quality of life. The last third of the book consists of worksheets to help the patient organize all the information, treatments, and decisions that she/he will be facing. ( )

Epigraph
Breast cancer
Has invaded by body,
But it need not
Invade my spirit.

There may be scars
On my chest,
But there need
Not be scars
On my heart.
