Thanks for your excellent review of Going After Cacciato . I gave it a hearty thumbs up! Like you, I really loved The things They Carried. I also liked In the Lake of the Woods. Have you read this one?
I'm adding Going After Cacciato to my list.
#124: I loved The Things They Carried when I read it earlier this year, so Going After Cacciato is definitely going on Planet TBR! Thanks for the review and recommendation, Madeline.

Tim O'Brien is a fabulous Yank author who wrote THE THINGS THEY CARRIED, GOING AFTER CACCIATO , TOMCAT IN LOVE, etc. Fought in Viet Nam and wrote brilliantly on that subject but has since morphed into a fine literary writer PERIOD.

Going After Cacciato by Tim O'Brien; a great book
The Things They Carried is one of my 5 star books. I've been intending to reread it again. I did not particularly like Going After Cacciato another Vietnam book by O'Brien. More recently, O'Brien wrote In the Lake of the Woods, a novel about the lingering trauma experienced by a present ...
... when i read it..god, it seems like decades ago. I think it's really his memoirs of his war reporting years. That, and going after cacciato - tim o'Brien were the two best VNam books that i've read; not read meditations in green however.
Also by Tim O'Brien is Going After Cacciato which I read several years ago and really loved. Caveat: You have to enjoy ambiguous stories with something like "magical realism' and no tidy ending, though.

There are several good books that came out of Vietnam. Among my favorites is the sarcasm and folly depicted in Going After Cacciato
by Tim O'Brien.
I started out in Vietnam during the late sixties/early seventies in Going After Cacciato by Tim O'Brien. We've traveled through Vietnam to Laos, Malaysia, Iran, and expect to end in Paris. Compelling book and I expect the ending to hold some special excitement.
