I thought that this book would help inspire me to be more virtuous in my daily life as I read the short vignettes from the lives of God's saints.
Hmmm.
Unfortunately, it would be a stretch to say this is so. The anti-Catholic bias in the book surprised me; I know that the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches differ on many points of worship, but it is the same figure of Jesus Christ to whom we pray! It's all Christianity! But February 2nd celebrates the crowning of Otto I as Holy Roman Emperor, which weakened the power of the papacy. Two or three of the entries in January/Early February also focus on the martyrdom of various Protestants during the reign of Queen Mary I...but no accounts of the martyrdom of priests during Henry VIII's reign rated a mention that I can recall!

I'm probably just too liberal; I know that America is a predominantly Protestant country after all.

The dates as they correspond to the histories seem a bit random, too. The date selections seem a little arbitrary. I mean, I would personally choose dates based on when the main story happened, rather than when the main character was born or died. *shrug* But that's just me. I hope whoever reads this next finds it a better aid to their daily devotionals.

(PS: Writing also dry, dull. Some of the choices seem very odd.) ( )
